Animal Control and Animal Services in California

Animal control and animal services agencies are run by a city or county. They take in strays, enforce local animal laws, run the municipal shelter and often handle pet licensing.

We list 129 animal control and animal services in California. Listed when the source classifies the place as animal control or the official name identifies a city or county animal services, animal control or pound.

We only list an organization here when the source data, the official name or a verified correction confirms it. If you know one that belongs on this page, open its listing and use "Suggest a correction", or add it through our submission form.

If the animal is friendly and safe to approach, check for an ID tag and take it to any vet or shelter to scan for a microchip. Report the found animal to your local animal control or municipal shelter, since that is where owners look first, and post it on local lost-and-found pet pages. Many cities require found pets to be reported or brought to the shelter within a few days. For injured or orphaned wildlife, call a licensed wildlife rehabilitator instead of handling the animal.
