Finding a nearby animal shelter
Distances are straight-line from your location or the center of your ZIP code to the recorded location of each animal shelter. Driving distance will be longer.
Listings come from open map data and can be out of date. Call ahead to confirm hours; many shelters keep separate hours for adoptions, intake and lost pets.

Frequently asked questions
How do I find a no-kill shelter near me?
Choose "No-kill" in the type filter before searching. We only mark a shelter as no-kill when its name or a confirmed record says so, so many shelters with high live release rates are not labeled. Ask a shelter for its live release rate if this matters to you.
I lost my pet. Where should I look first?
Call and visit your city or county animal control shelter and the humane society or SPCA nearest to where the pet went missing, then shelters in neighboring towns. Bring a photo, check in person every few days, and file a lost report. If your pet is microchipped, make sure the chip registry has your current phone number.
What is the difference between animal control and a humane society?
Animal control is a city or county service: it takes in strays, enforces animal laws and usually must accept animals from its area. A humane society or SPCA is an independent nonprofit, even when it holds a contract to run the local shelter. Both usually adopt out animals.
Why is a shelter or rescue I know missing?
Our listings come from open map data (Overture Maps and OpenStreetMap). Many foster-based rescues have no public address and are not on the map. Add a missing organization through the submission form and we will review it.
Is my location stored?
No. Your browser sends the coordinates once to find nearby animal shelters; we do not save them or tie them to you.
